Brittany Mestas
Marriage & Family Therapist, MA, LMFT, CTP, EMDR
Hello! I’m Brittany Mestas, a licensed psychotherapist, born and raised in the beautiful city of Santa Barbara, California. Growing up here has shaped my deep appreciation for community, resilience, and the importance of emotional well-being, which I bring into my work with clients every day.
I specialize in working with individuals ages 16 and older, with a particular focus on first responders and their families. However, I am happy to support anyone who is ready to work on improving their well-being. I understand the unique challenges faced by those in high-stress, demanding professions, and I’m committed to providing a safe, nonjudgmental space to process trauma, stress, and any personal or relational struggles. My work with first responders and their families is deeply rooted in cultural competence, recognizing and honoring the diverse backgrounds and experiences that shape each person’s journey.
Therapy Services
-
In person-centered therapy, we work together in a non-judgmental, empathetic environment where you are at the center of the process. I approach this work by being genuinely curious about your experiences, listening closely, and reflecting back what I hear, so you can gain greater insight and understanding. This approach emphasizes your autonomy, supporting you to explore your thoughts and feelings freely. By focusing on your strengths, we work together to enhance self-awareness, build resilience, and create meaningful changes in your life and relationships.

CBT is a goal-oriented, practical approach that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. Through collaboration, we will work together to challenge unhelpful thinking and replace it with healthier, more adaptive beliefs and coping strategies. I bring a direct but compassionate approach to help you reframe negative thought patterns, particularly around anxiety, depression, and stress. The strength-based nature of CBT also helps you recognize your ability to change and grow, empowering you to create the life you desire.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for processing trauma, anxiety, phobias, and PTSD. It uses bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements) to help your brain reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and promoting healing. I approach EMDR with a trauma-informed, collaborative style, checking in frequently to ensure you feel comfortable and empowered throughout the process. My curiosity about your experiences and my gentle yet direct guidance helps you move through challenging material with increased resilience and peace.

Somatic EMDR integrates body-focused techniques with the principles of EMDR to help release trauma stored in the body. This modality works on a nervous system level, helping you move through trauma physically as well as emotionally. I take a collaborative approach to Somatic EMDR, staying curious and reflective as we explore how your body holds and processes trauma. My gentle but direct style ensures that you feel both safe and supported as you move through physical sensations and emotional release, restoring balance and calm to your nervous system.
